What Is Dexterity?

Dexterity gloves doing manicure

Ever tried to tie your shoelaces with a bulky glove on? Sounds difficult. Take the gloves off and suddenly it’s 1000x easier. This is dexterity, the ability to move your hands.

Dexterity is the ability to perform small, precise hand movements with accuracy. Tying your shoes typically requires an average level of hand control, with a big glove on, that level skyrockets.

Here are the four factors that affect a glove’s dexterity

1. Material type – This is key.

For a nitrile disposable glove, the nitrile formula decides how stretchy and dexterous the glove is.

For reusable gloves, the decider is the material. Between leather and cotton, which is easier to stretch? The easier one will typically provide more dexterity.

2. Size – It matters.

A glove too small will restrict hand movements, and too big will interfere with natural movements and most likely lead to hand fatigue. Find your best glove size here

    3. Thickness – Find the perfect balance.

Typically, a thicker glove can limit dexterity compared to thinner gloves, but the stretchiness of the material is the key factor. You can have a dexterous and tough glove, it’s about finding the balance that works for you.

    4. Texture – For a non-slip surface.

Raised texture on gloves genuinely helps with dexterity as the enhanced grip helps you perform smaller movements that smooth gloves would slip on. Discover tough, raised texture gloves, available in black & orange here

This is the same with dip coatings on reusable gloves, the coating enhances grip without adding bulk to the glove. Learn more about dip coating on reusable gloves here
